Paid Digital Communication and PR Internships @ Climate Week (London)

Climate Week is offering paid internship positions which will provide practical experience in running a high-profile national environmental campaign. Interns are being recruited to support the team with campaigning, digital communications and PR.
We need people with flair, determination, a commitment to environmental change, an appetite for campaigning, first-rate communications skills and above all a focus on delivering results. The role will be based in Climate Week's central London office.
About Climate Week
Climate Week is a supercharged national campaign to inspire a new wave of action on climate change, taking place from 4-10 March 2013. High profile supporters of the campaign include the Prime Minister and Sir Paul McCartney, as well as organisations such as the CBI, TUC, Girlguiding UK and NHS.
In its second year, in March 2012, Climate Week involved over half a million people participating in over 3,000 events around the country. There were 1,300 pieces of media coverage and 28% of British adults were aware of Climate Week. It is Britain's biggest climate change campaign and biggest ever environmental occasion. About the Internships
Internships are available to assist with a particular sector of the campaign, with digital communications, or with PR.
You will need to be educated to degree level and to have had demonstrable involvement in social, environmental or political issues, or experience of organising events, or to have worked in a professional marketing/communications role.
The qualities required include:
- Persuasive communicator in writing, on the phone and in person
- Highly organised
- Team player
- Ambitious, entrepreneurial, can-do attitude
- Good at prioritising and focusing
- Passionate commitment to taking action on climate change
- Recognises the value brought to the campaign by different sectors of society
- Customer-oriented attitude to stakeholders
The salary for an internship is £11,300 p.a. pro rata, although more may be available in rare instances for an exceptional candidate.
Successful candidates will be expected to work on a fixed term contract starting in September or October, until March 2013.
Roles Available
Campaign Interns
Campaign Interns will primarily have responsibility for running a part of the Climate Week campaign within a particular sector. There may be opportunities to become involved in other aspects of the campaign as required.
Candidates will be at a significant advantage if they can demonstrate experience within, or knowledge of, the sector (or sectors) for which they apply.

- Third Sector
Digital Marketing Intern
The Digital Marketing Intern will assist with the campaign's website and social media. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a good understanding of social media and web design, a technical proficiency, and a passion for digital communications.
The following are highly desirable qualities in a candidate:
- Involvement in digital communications or social media campaigns
- Experience in using a Content Management system (in particular WordPress)
- Good copywriting skills
- Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Understanding of website usability issues
PR & Celebrity Interns
The PR Intern will support the Head of Communications, gaining excellent, frontline experience in a fast-paced press office. The successful candidate will have responsibility for helping to prepare content for journalists, working with our PR agency to generate coverage, responding to incoming media enquires, and drafting press releases.
The Celebrity Liaison Intern will work with a Campaign Manager to raise the profile of Climate Week through our high profile supporters. The successful candidate will be responsible for generating celebrity backing by pitching to agents, securing pledges of support, helping to organise media opportunities and building relationships with new and current supporters.
Key skills and experience:
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Proven ability to multi-task
- Interest in/knowledge of UK national/consumer media and celebrities
- Hard-working, passionate approach
Desirable skills and experience:
- Previous agency or in-house PR experience
