Thanks for the feedback Billy - yeah very limited with stuff! Was fun just using the light that was there and working out angles to shot it to represent setting as sinister - and also the good old attaching a light to the camera! I am glad too and a…
Nicely pieced together and good fun for what limited resources (I'd imagine) you guys had at your disposal. Good use of light! I'm really pleased schools are including media production in their curriculum as that wasn't the case when I was at school…
Getting iFilmaker Pro me thinks!
Storyboard composer sounds inviting but expensive - wonder if they do a lite version (though that won't be good) for free...
Cheers for article
I would like to pursue a career in the film industry, and strive to become a Cinematographer/DoP.
I am also particularly interested in Editing and Sound. Ranging from editing techniques to foley work and I enjoy working in a live sound environment also.
I spend much of my spare time learning about film techniques and the equipment that is used in the industry and enjoy experimenting in my own short films.
I am rarely satisfied with the results and am always looking to do the next thing better.
Experience
4 years part time in theatre and independent film-making.
Extensive time spent in a live theatre environment focusing on lighting (rigging, focusing, plotting and opping) as well as in sound including setup, sound checks and mixing for live events.
Knowledge of Adobe Production Suite as well as Apple's Production Suite (Logic and Final Cut) along with Microsoft Office, Sibelius and Pro Tools.
Made short educational films for my school as well as schools which neighbour it to highlight litter problems.

Hi Kit, how are ya? Was wondering if you'd have any interest in the MM short film we're shooting in two weeks? Looking to fill two crew roles. Details: here. All the best!
Also, I think Pilton Video look to teenagers for voluntary work. Not sure if that's still in place but you can check them out at http://www.piltonvideo.org/.
I did an HND in Creative Industries: Television at Stevenson College Edinburgh, and can honestly say I think it's a great place to consider going to study. It's a highly practical two-year course which covers a wide range of skills, using some great equipment, editing facilities, and multiple studios. You can book out studios for personal projects and take film equipment home over Holidays for a reasonable sum of money (to cover the insurance). Highlights from the course include the work experience unit and live studio unit. You can check out current and past student work at http://www.stevenson.tv/ Most importantly, the lecturers are all very passionate and helpful. I'm going to visit the college again in a few weeks to give a talk to some of the students about Media Muppet!
If you'd prefer uni, Napier and Edinburgh College of Art are likely the two best ones to suit your interests in Edinburgh, going by the course outlines and what other people who've studied at those places have said. If cinematography is your main interest - with all due respect to the place - avoid Queen Margaret University like the plague.
All the best and keep us updated on what you're up to. Any questions, just ask. Keep an eye out as work placements can sometimes pop up on MM. We also sometimes organise gatherings for film screenings, put out a newsletter every couple of weeks, and sometimes - just sometimes - get together to make a film. Well, I'm rambling. All the best!
Hi Kit, and welcome to MM! I'm Billy and I run the site. Any questions/queries, just shout in my general direction! :) Any thoughts on your next step once you finish up at high school? All the best!
- Billy
