ASexual Healing - when curiosity becomes the cure


From the quirky yet chilled Martha Appelt, director of Edinburgh Collge of Art short film ‘Fashion’ (2008) comes another short comedy based on one girl’s experience of her genitals transforming over one day.

A graduation low-budget film to be shot in Edinburgh over several days between 5th and 11th April. Cast and crew will be well fed, and reasonable shoot travel costs paid.

Julie McIntosh has produced four short films including the New Talent Bafta award winning The Flyer, Paper Planes (her MFA graduation film shot with Billy Dowling-Reid and other Media Muppet members support! Presently in post-production).

The story

Sam wakes up one morning to find her vagina is missing. Waiting to be seen by her doctor, she meets Alex who is suffering from similar affliction in the waiting room. A prescription mistake results in both having genitals re-grow, but somehow they get each others’. This ensures they meet again. Their mutual attraction develops as they share their experiences and find some ASexual Healing.

Casting sessions to be held on Sunday 14th March in Edinburgh (venue to be confirmed to those invited to audition) for the main parts:


Sam (24) - Our girl with the dilemma
Pretty, quiet, shy, intelligent, good sense of humour, single, independent – she likes to be on her own but doesnʼt make a statement out of it. Has been working in a bookshop for 2 years with no future plans in mind. Sheʼs quite happy living her life as it is, since she resigned to the thought of not being that special – a scientist, a philosopher, a writer or an artist.

She wakes up one morning to discover her vagina has disappeared over night, and in her search for a cure meets someone special.

Alex (26) - Our man with an issue, but also a once in a lifetime opportunity
Very good looking, confident, intelligent, single- he always thinks he deserves better- very organised. Likes to be desired by girls but never follows it through because he doesnʼt want to be like the other guys – he likes to think of himself as being special and hard to get. Studies biology and he is a career driven person.

Dr Love (late 30's/40's)Dr Love is passionate about curing those in need, and in his drive to ensure success takes his job to a whole new level, as Sam will discover. He can seem almost evangelistically inspired when diagnosing his patients in the treatment room.

Casting sessions for the supporting parts detailed below will be held on Monday 15th March over the afternoon and evening. If you are interested in auditioning but are unable to make the date/s please let us know and if you are selected for audition we will try to make alternative arrangements.

The Postie - a nice man who finds more than he bargained for at Sam's place

Dr McQueer- Dr Love's colleague who treats Alex, resembles the village Miss librarian caricature.

Receptionist- though attractive and helpful, she's obsessive about her Ken and Barbie dolls, a bit dizzy and has a very deep voice like a man's 9although this can be dubbed in post-production).
