Media Muppet

This is just an ultra-short clip from my first play around on Green Screen. It is part of a longer video I'm editing in my (seldom) spare time. Man gets sucked into his own painting. Random music.

Hey, Pete. This is all stuff I do on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (as often as I can) at Stevenson College, so you're more than welcome to come along! I used Adobe After Effects. Those painty swirls came from an actual painting my friend did, so I just took pictures of it on a digital camera and then imported the stills into After Effects. Well first we filmed Derek against the green screen trying his best to react to stuff we were going to edit in later. Then we imported the footage into After Effects, and used the chroma key effect to key out the green and just replace it with white. Then with the painty swirls, I manipulated/cropped/chopped/resized/recoloured etc. until happy and then animated them with the luma key and keyframes. Starting with a value of 0 on the 'brightness' parameter of the luma key function, the painty swirls were invisible, but with two simple keyframes all gradually faded in as the second keyframe - a few seconds along on the timeframe - had a luma key brightness parameter of about 80. So using keyframes you can get some pretty swift animation effects.

I'm sure I had to do other stuff I'm forgetting right now, but that is basically how we did it. :)

Lookin' good! Effects behind AND in front, looks very snazy. How did you animate the paint movements? What packages are you using?
